Research Summary

Our research program revolves around the synthesis and use of fused heterocyclic stable carbocations that can act as Lewis acids, Lewis acidic ligands for metal complexes, photocatalysts for bond formation and cleavage, or electrolytes for redox flow batteries that can be used as energy storage.

Members of the group will receive rigorous training in organic synthesis, air-sensitive organometallic synthesis, and in solid-state synthetic methods, along with homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. A broad range of physical methods including single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, multinuclear NMR, UV/vis, IR, and EPR spectroscopy, as well as cyclic voltammetry, will be used to characterize new complexes and materials.
