Dr. Aslam Shaikh

Aslam is a postdoctoral research assistant in the Gianetti lab, who comes from India. He received his Masters in Organic Chemistry (2012) from the University of Pune, India where he was awarded with university gold medal for exceptional performance in academics. He completed his PhD in Chemical Sciences from CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), India with Prof. Nitin Patil. Here, he carried out detail studies on synthesis of organic fluorophore through metal-catalyzed difunctionalization of C−C multiple bonds. Later, He moved to Prof. Kwon group at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for postdoctoral research, where he developed a new phosphine catalyst for asymmetric transformations and also worked on new class of therapeutic agents for cardiac arrhythmias. Aslam joined Gianetti lab in August 2019, and he focus on synthesis of novel organometallic species through ligand design that will tackle the most challenging reactions of our century. He loves to do hiking, exercise and tasting foods.
